First Steps

How to start strong in The Classic RO.

This tutorial will give you a more detailed introduction to the basic mechanics of the game and your progression!

Getting Started:

  1. Register here.
  2. Download the launcher here.
  3. After installation, log in and create your first character, choose an impressive nickname just like you! image
  4. Talk to the Beginner Kafra and receive a Beginner Pack. Be aware, as you will only receive one pack per registered account! image
  5. Double-click the Pack to receive amazing gifts. Pay attention to the number in front of the new box, as it will be at this level that you will receive more gifts until the end of your journey! image
  6. Open the Combat and Class Manuals, they will increase your EXP for a limited time. On the right side of your screen, you will see the effectiveness of the buff. image
  7. Talk to the Novice Instructor, he will guide you on the next steps.
  8. Now talk to the Training Guide, receive your first items, and move on to the next room. image
  9. Talk a few times with the Guide on the right, receive EXP and some items, then go up and talk to the Field Instructor. He will ask for your name, type the nickname you used when creating the character, and ask to go to the training field. image
  10. In the training field, you can face monsters with your own strength, or if you prefer, open your inventory and use the Archer Scroll. These assistants are extremely strong for your level and will surely guarantee a precise shot at the target! To use it: Right-click your assistant, then go to status and Skills. Here you will find your assistants abilities. To use them, just drag the skill to the shortcut bar at the top of the screen, the shortcuts go from F1 to F9. If your assistant runs out of SP, you can also attack by using ALT+Left-click on the target, the assistant will attack using basic attacks. Be quick, as assistants have a time limit. image
  11. At the top, you will see two levels of your character, on the left is your main level and on the right is your class level or skill level. To progress, you will need at least level 10 in class and Basic Skills at level 10. To apply the points, simply open the tab with ALT+S. image
  12. When you defeat monsters, valuable or not items will be dropped, remember to collect all the items from the ground, to make it easier, use the @autoloot command to collect 100% of the dropped items, or set the percentage to your choice. Remember that for all services to be used, such as warehouse or teleporting from one place to another, you need to have Zenny, the currency of Ragnarok Online. How does the @autoloot command work? If in a specific map, the specific monster drops a specific item that you are interested in and this item has a 1% chance of being dropped, just use the syntax "@autoloot 1" and all items with a 1% chance of being dropped will be automatically collected. image
  13. Talk to the Graduated Instructor and go to Prontera, the central city of Rune-Midgard. image

Choosing a Class:

Now that youre in Prontera, its time to decide which path youll take as an adventurer. Each starting class has its own playstyle and progression. Here are the options:

  • Swordsman who evolves into Knight or Paladin: Swordsmen are experts in melee combat, tough and deal good physical damage. Knights have high attack and can ride PecoPecos, while Paladins have holy abilities and great defense, making them excellent in combat against dark monsters.
  • Archer who evolves into Hunter or Bard/Odalisque: Archers are masters of long-range combat. With good positioning, they eliminate enemies before being reached. Hunters use traps and falcon companions, while Bards and Odalisques enchant their allies with music and dances.
  • Wizard who evolves into Sage or Warlock: Wizards dominate the power of elements, causing great area damage. Warlocks evolve this ability with even more devastating magic, while Sages focus on utilities, magical support, and resilience.
  • Novice who evolves into Priest or Monk: Novices focus on support and healing, being indispensable in groups. Priests strengthen their allies with blessings and resurrection, while Monks focus on powerful physical and spiritual attacks.
  • Thief who evolves into Mercenary or Rogue: Thieves are agile, stealthy, and great at fast combat. Mercenaries evolve into skilled assassins, using daggers and katar. Rogues, more strategic, steal skills and unequip enemies.
  • Merchant who evolves into Blacksmith or Alchemist: Merchants focus on economy and utilities, mastering trade and equipment. Blacksmiths are masters of crafting and using heavy weapons, while Alchemists create potions and can summon homunculus creatures to assist them. image

In the room, talk to the first class guild representative, who will ask you to bring some items. There is a teleporter that will send you to maps to collect the items, and below is a list of the items that may be requested and where to find them:

Class changed, its time to start your journey! How about going to Payon Caves to test your skills? When you feel confident, climb the floors or head to Orc Dungeon. Soon it will be time to change your class again.

To change to your final class, you need to reach at least level 40 in class. It is highly recommended to reach level 50 to not lose skill points that will be crucial in battle. To change your profession again, simply talk to the Teleporter and go to your guild.

The next mission will be an individual hunt, use the NPC teleporter and hunt monsters in their specific maps. Return to the guild and talk to the leader again, then ask to finish the profession change quest and congratulations! Now you are ready to explore the more challenging maps and maybe try your luck in PvP?

And now? How to make lots of Zennys?

To turn your time into Zenny, just plan ahead, there are cards from some monsters that are very valuable because they are important factors in a battle, for example, the Thara Frog Card reduces damage received from other characters and humanoid monsters by 30%.

Another way is to drop valuable items from monsters and sell them to merchants using the Merchants Markup skill, which increases profit by 24%. There are items that are extremely valuable in trade, such as Gold or the Insect Trap.

Take advantage of the tips and level up as much as possible!
